"Why are you slowing down? You were just getting to the good part!" Beth protests.

The writer sighs, "I know! But this section has a lot of notes, alright? I need to take my time."

"Is that why I feel like my personality changed?" Beth looks at herself in the mirror.

"Yes, apparently you come off as a bit of a worrywart, and not in a cute, charming way." The writer chuckles.

"I think it's cute." Beth's husband, A, calls from the next chapter.

"Ya, well, I kind of wrote you too lovey dovey, so we're gonna dial that back. " The writer rolls her eyes, closing the document. That was enough of that for one day.

She gets up from her desk and tosses the ball for Miss Flo, who sits waiting. Throw, nails skitter across the floor, bam. Into the wall she slams, charge back. Fight for the ball, repeat.

As they repeat this game, the writer's mind wanders; her copy of Through the Puddles sits on her display shelf, she'd released that book a year ago... How had a year gone by? Had she done enough? What made a book successful? The self-doubt floods her mind. Will this be the time she drowns?

CRASH!

Miss Flo rams into the writer's legs, causing them both to stumble. The writer lets out a full laugh. "Alright, Miss, and that's a break." She sits up and lets her puppy crawl over her. She laughs until it hurts, "Okay, okay, that's enough." She playfully pushes her off, "Walk?"

The dog's ears perk up, and she gets excited.

"Yes, let's go clear my head." The writer stands, patting Miss Flo on the head, and reaches for the training treats and the harness.
